GLASS ARTIST
Mesmerized by flame and by the glow of hot glass I wind, poke, pull and mash molten glass into beads, bugs and cabinet knobs. I am passionate about design…and I play with fire!
When I began my journey into the world of hot glass, most of the torch–worked glass artists that I met were making glass beads. While I do make glass beads, as a professional kitchen designer I knew early in my glass-working journey that my goal was to make artisan glass cabinet knobs.
While studying Interior Design at the University of Minnesota I took a class in jewelry design where I had my first experience with a torch, soldering silver. At that time I was a bit intimidated by the torch and never envisioned that decades later my passion for coler, light and form would lead me to sit in front of a torch again, this time sculpting hot glass. My journey into the world of hot glass began in late 1996 as I took my first class, using a simple single fuel torch called a Hot Head. I soon moved to an oxygen propane torch, and now use a larger two-stage torch to handle the large gathers of glass necessary to make glass cabinet knobs.
